Do you have an increase in frequency of urination at night? Cause may be
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition in which the prostate grows in size.
Prostate is a gland that rests below the bladder and in front of rectum. It is about the size of a walnut, and it surrounds part of urethra. Urethra is a tube that carries urine and sperm (ejaculates) out of the body. If the prostate grows in size, it can prevent urine and ejaculate from passing through the urethra. The normal size of the adult prostate gland is about 15cc-30cc. A prostate gland of more than 30cc usually indicates benign prostate hyperplasia (homeopathic doctor near me).
Benign prostatic hyperplasia is common.
By age 60, about 50% of people with a prostate will have some signs of BPH. By age 85, about 90% will have signs of the condition.
About half of all people with BPH will develop symptoms that require treatment.
Sign and symptoms
1. Frequent or urgent need to urinate
2. Increased frequency of urination at night (nocturia)
3. Difficulty starting urination
4. Weak urine stream or a stream that stops and starts
5. Dribbling at the end of urination
6. Inability to completely empty the bladder
Complications
1. Urinary tract infections
2. Bladder stones
3. Blood in urination
Diagnosis
1. Urine test. Analyzing a sample of urine can help to rule out an infection or other conditions that can cause similar symptoms.
2. Blood test- Increased Levels of Urea and serum creatinine can indicate kidney problems.
3. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test. PSA is a substance produced in the prostate. PSA levels increase when prostate is enlarged. However, elevated PSA levels can also be due to recent procedures, infection, surgery or prostate cancer (grade 1 prostatomegaly) .
4. Urinary flow test- To measure the speed of the urinary stream.
5. Urodynamic and pressure flow studies. A catheter is threaded through the urethra into the bladder. Water — or, less commonly, air — is slowly injected into the bladder. Then bladder pressure is measured to determine how bladder muscles are working. These studies are usually used only in patients with suspected neurological problems and in patients who have had a previous prostate procedure and still have symptoms (prostatomegaly meaning) .
6. Ultrasound- Ultrasound may show enlarged prostate.
Homeopathic Management
Homeopathic medicines help to relieve the symptoms and prevent further progression of the complaint. Constitutional homeopathic medicines given to the patients after a detailed history taking works the best. Therapeutic indications of some medicines are as follows
1. Sabal serrulata A frequent urge to urinate at night, with difficulty passing urine, and a feeling of coldness in the sexual organs, suggest a need for this remedy. (homeopathy medicine for hair fall)
2. Chimaphilla umbellata Sensation as if a ball is lodged in the pelvic floor, or experience pressure, swelling, and soreness that are worse when sitting down.
3. Apis mellifica Stinging pain during urination that is worse when the final drops are passing is a strong indication for this remedy.
4. Conium maculatum- For interrupted urine flow in BPH.
5. Lycopodium-This remedy may be helpful if urine is slow to emerge, with pressure felt in the prostate both during and after urination. The prostate is enlarged, and impotence accompany the problem.
6. Thuja Frequent urge to urinate, with cutting or burning pain felt near the bladder neck . After urine passes, a dribbling sensation may be felt. A forked or divided urine stream (german homeopathic medicine).
Lifestyle Measures
Exercising at least 30 minutes each day helps to prevent BPH or slow prostate growth. Maintaining normal cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels is also important. Flaxseed- Flax is a good source of dietary fiber and omega-3 fatty acids that helps to lower cholesterol. Pumpkin seeds – Pumpkin seeds help to shrink the prostate (homeopathic hospital near me) .
